In the United States, American football is a prime example: thousands of young people pursue this sport not only out of passion but also because of the many academic and professional opportunities it can provide. Simply participating at a high level can make you a role model and a source of admiration. But what happens when two of your children become stars in the sport? Coming from a family with a deep love for American football, the Kelce brothers began playing the sport at a very young age. As children, they participated in various school activities, and as they grew older, they often found themselves on the same team. Eventually, they were drafted by major NFL organizations, Jason by the Philadelphia Eagles and Travis by the Kansas City Chiefs, showcasing how both brothers rose to become dominant figures in the sport. Today, they serve as role models for thousands of children who see themselves reflected in their journey as a pair of accomplished siblings. The Kelce brothers are not only standout American football players, they are also influential public figures in the entertainment industry. Both have appeared in numerous television commercials, hosted shows, and co-host a popular podcast, among other projects that have positioned them at the center of American pop culture. Their widespread appeal highlights their unique charisma and reinforces their status as symbols of American pride, as well as the result of parents who dedicated themselves to supporting their sons’ growth and success.

  • Trump needs to stop dismissing the Economy.

By Jonathan Roman President Trump promised to millions of Americans that prices would go down once he took office. Despite the promise, the prices have only risen, and lower and middle class American people are taking the brunt of it. For all the Presidents Bravado, on the campaign trail, Americans are hurting to afford groceries, pay rent, pay car payments. A study from the Urban Institute found that one in four Americans are using credit cards for groceries in the past year, and are carrying debt from the purchases. The American dream is seemingly becoming more and more unattainable for the lower and middle class, and the effects of the President's stubbornness are hitting his approval ratings, with only 39% of Americans approving of the President's performance. The President took to 60 Minutes on CBS to say that the current state of the economy is from Joe Biden, despite Trump being the commander and chief for 9 months. The people are not buying what he's selling with a new FOX News poll stating 62% of Americans think the economy is in a bad state and they blame President Trump.  Americans in New Jersey, Virgina, and New York sent a message to the President that the cost of living is their top issue. Americans overwhelmingly voted for democrats across the ideological spectrum because these candidates ran on affordability and the cost of living. The President dismissing suffering Americans who can barely get by is reminiscent of President Biden who similarly touted numbers and statistics in spite of Americans feeling the economic burden. These elections are a preview to the midterms, in which President Trump's performance as president will also be on the ballot. If the President and Republicans continue to dismiss the concerns that Americans can afford groceries, Democrats will win sweepingly across the country.

  • Jeffrey Epstein; the turning point for an entire nation

By Darwin Collazo Jeffrey Epstein represents a referendum on shame, injustice, power, and money, a child sex-trafficking network that operated for years behind a façade of wealth and political influence. His crimes forever scarred the lives of those affected and now threaten to push the United States toward a point of no return, as an infamous list looms over an elite that once appeared untouchable. Six years have passed since the death of the infamous financier, yet his name continues to echo like a dark legend among the voices of a nation demanding equal justice for all, beginning with the young women who were blackmailed and deceived into satisfying the twisted desires of powerful figures in society. Epstein delivered his first devastating blow when former Prince Andrew was stripped of his royal duties and, ultimately, his title due to his connection to the trafficking ring. But like him, many others have slipped into anonymity, hoping the truth will never surface and their influence will protect them. Now, however, the scandal threatens to strike at the heart of the United States’ political system. Epstein has become the dominant topic of discussion this week in the U.S. political landscape, with President Donald Trump at the center of attention. It has been suggested that Trump had strong ties to the late Epstein, and many argue that this is why the release of related documents has been delayed—fueling internal conflict between political parties in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. It’s important to remember that much of the information surrounding the Epstein case remains speculative, relying on documents whose authenticity must be verified. What is certain, however, is that Epstein created an unprecedented rupture in American society and politics. The shadow of his crimes will continue to reverberate throughout the country for years to come. This controversy has opened the door to a critical turning point for the United States: Will we pursue justice and apply the law equally to all, or will those in power succeed in shaping, withholding, or controlling the truth?

  • Trump and MTG; from love to hate

By Darwin L. Collazo The friendship and political alliance between President Donald Trump and Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene was a prominent feature of American politics for a long time. Greene demonstrated unwavering loyalty to Trump, even incorporating his reelection rhetoric into several of her speeches during Joe Biden’s 2024 presidential campaign. Trump, in turn, appreciated and defended her aggressive confrontations in the House of Representatives, inviting her to various events and campaigning on her behalf. Now, however, that chapter appears to be in the past. It all began with President Trump’s international policies, which, according to Marjorie Taylor Greene, represent a complete departure from the core promises of his campaign. He repeatedly emphasized putting the United States first and focusing on domestic issues rather than global ones. Although Trump initially appeared committed to this approach, Greene claims that, over time, he drifted away from his original objective. The militarization of the Caribbean Sea, the billions of dollars in aid to Argentina, and the controversy surrounding the Epstein files are among the reasons she has reversed her stance on the very figure she defended tooth and nail less than a year ago. For Trump, these criticisms amount to a betrayal. He argues that Greene no longer deserves his unconditional support because, in his view, she has adopted positions that ultimately benefit the Democratic Party more than the Republican Party. In recent statements, he confirmed that he will no longer support the Georgia congresswoman’s political career. Although public comments continue to escalate on both sides, for now we can only wait and see whether this relationship becomes yet another in President Donald Trump’s long history of alliances that begin with love and admiration and end in resentment and repudiation.

  • The Shutdown is over but the battle over Healthcare is not

By Jonathan Roman After a historic 43 day shutdown, the Government reopened on Wednesday night. After eight centrist Democratic Senators voted with Republicans to fund the Government. Despite Democrats holding off on opening the government over Affordable Care act tax subsidies, which expire at the end of the year.  The Democrats who voted to fund the government were guaranteed a future vote on the subsidies in December, yet Republicans did not guarantee they would vote to extend the subsidies. Leaving the question what was this all for?  Republicans may be able to say the government is reopened, and the eight Democrats who voted to fund the government may say that they negotiated with Republicans in a bi-partison manner to reopen the government yet at what cost. What will happen to the 22 million Americans who are dependent on the tax subsidies to receive healthcare, who can struggle as it is to get by, and make ends meet. As their future remains in limbo, to whatever Washington decides who will guarantee that these Americans receive coverage.  This moment requires more than partisan talking points, and a real address to healthcare in this courtny. The American people should not take the brunt of political games by Democrats and Republicans. Republicans have had 10 years to produce a healthcare policy, yet the closest we are to one is the President's “concepts of a plan”. In spite of these tax subsidies hurting voters in their states, many who are on the Affordable Care Act.  And with no policy to address healthcare from the GOP, Republicans ultimately will take the blame when 22 million Americans are stripped of their healthcare, with nothing to replace it. The Americans deserve better than partisan fights over healthcare and a real substantive proposal for the rising cost of healthcare.

  • Massive fire burns down the home of Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra

By Ana V Rodriguez A massive fire on Thursday morning, November 6, destroyed a mansion that, according to local documents and files, is the home of the Miami Heat's basketball coach, Erik Spoelstra. Several fire units were seen battling a blaze that morning at a house in southwest Coral Gables, which, according to local reports, belongs to the coach. Firefighters confirmed that the emergency call came in around 4:36 a.m. According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR), 20 units and about 100 firefighters responded to the emergency and found two structures on the property completely engulfed in flames. A video appears to show the coach standing in front of the house, which was completely consumed by the fire. According to MDFR spokesperson Erika Benites, the fire was difficult to control due to the characteristics of the house. “It’s a very large property located in a small space, with limited access, surrounded by trees, vegetation, and a wall.” Benites explained that they only had one point of access through the main gate and that they had to work using ladders from a great height due to the size of the wall and the trees. No injuries have been reported so far.

  • RFK Jr. a threat to U.S. public health?

By Darwin Collazo With a surname deeply rooted in American political history, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. positioned himself as a seemingly ideal future commander-in-chief. His policies, his public statements, and especially his anti-vaccine stance shaped a political path that ultimately became difficult for a member of the nation’s most famous family dynasty to sustain. This eventually led him to withdraw from the presidential race, but not before publicly endorsing then-candidate Donald Trump. In return, Trump offered him one of the most controversial appointments of his presidency: Secretary of Health and Human Services. His anti-vaccine stance generated strong criticism from several members of Congress even before his selection as Secretary of Health and Human Services. Although RFK Jr. repeatedly denied these accusations, multiple lawmakers challenged his statements; nevertheless, the former presidential candidate ultimately retained the position offered to him by President Trump. Since then, a series of public pronouncements has thrown the country into turmoil. Along with internal departmental changes and new regulations, such as scaling back flu-vaccine promotional campaigns and dismissing several department officials, one of the most notable controversies to emerge has been the Tylenol case. In a press conference led by President Trump and supported by RFK Jr., it was claimed that Tylenol use during pregnancy caused autism in unborn babies, and that its use among pregnant women would therefore be restricted. Medical experts and professionals quickly refuted this assertion, confirming that there is no evidence linking acetaminophen use in pregnancy to autism. In fact, acetaminophen is commonly recommended, when used in moderation, as the safest pain reliever for pregnant women. Despite this, the statements made at the press conference sparked nationwide confusion. Many people believed the president’s claims, while others remained skeptical. The CDC website even began recommending that pregnant women avoid the medication, further fueling public concern. Over time, however, due to the lack of scientific evidence and mounting public pressure, RFK Jr. held another conference in which he admitted that he did not have “sufficient” evidence to assert a connection between the pain reliever and autism, an acknowledgment that aligned with what medical professionals had been stating from the start. RFK Jr. has not even held his position for a full year, yet he has already become the target of widespread criticism for his apparent inability to manage such a critical role within the United States government. Many have urged President Trump to dismiss him to prevent further complications, but the president has refused, expressing confidence in RFK Jr.’s experience in a field he himself admits he does not fully understand. Only time will tell how far this administration will take us, and whether it will be too late to return to a path that meets the healthcare needs of millions of Americans.

  • Ozempic, a double-edged sword

By Darwin Collazo For centuries, the image of the slender figure has dominated society as an ideal to emulate, leading to the creation of countless “solutions” promising effortless weight loss. Drinks, exercise routines, creams, medicinal teas, restrictive diets, and even costly procedures such as plastic surgery and gastrointestinal interventions have been marketed to help people achieve their ideal weight. These options target those who feel they do not fit society’s imposed standard. Yet, in an unexpected twist, a medication long considered a lifesaving treatment for millions of diabetics around the world, semaglutide, most widely known by its brand name Ozempic, has suddenly emerged as a symbol of thinness and the newest path to achieving that ideal. In recent years, Ozempic has become a symbol of hope for millions of people who not only struggle with diabetes but have also discovered in this medication a proven tool for weight loss. Thousands have joined the growing number of individuals willing to spend large sums of money to obtain it, drawn by the significant physical changes it has demonstrated in people seeking to lose weight. Ozempic is not merely promising, it has become clear evidence of the medication’s effectiveness. But, as with anything that appears perfect, it also has a darker side. Ozempic has several side effects that are relatively common among its primary users, people with diabetes. These include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, and loss of appetite. Although the severity varies from person to person, these reactions are well-documented, and patients are informed that they may occur. However, some side effects are more serious and can become permanent. Numerous cases have been reported in which individuals experienced reduced kidney function, pancreatitis, vision problems, and, in rare but possible instances, even memory issues. This raises an important question: What sacrifices are we willing to make in pursuit of an ideal body? Besides the one already mentioned, there are many other alternatives that offer the same result, such as Monjauro, Wegovy, and others, but Ozempic remains at the forefront as the face of the ideal image for those who want to feel they fit into the ideal that the world has constructed for society. But despite its pros and cons, this medicine has not lost the battle; on the contrary, it has shown itself stronger than ever, with the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, joining the Ozempic craze and wanting to create a program so that the residents of this state can have this medication at a very low cost, showing that Ozempic, despite everything, has a lot of history to tell.

  • FIU Students and Staff Protest 287(g) Agreement with ICE

By Candela Maceda Yesterday, students and staff from Florida International University gathered at the Graham Center Lawns to protest the university police department's involvement in the 287(g) program. "No hate, no fear, immigrants are welcome here" was one of the various chants made by the protesters. The 287(g) agreement was signed by the FIU Police Department in July 2025. The agreement allows trained members of the FIU police department to collaborate with ICE and perform certain federal immigration enforcement functions. Following the agreement, students and faculty began protesting on multiple occasions and shared their concerns on social media. The FIU police department stated that they signed the agreement to facilitate collaboration in case ICE presents itself on campus. President Jeanette Nuñez and Police Chief Casas declared that FIU would be in control instead of being a passive victim in the event of an immigrant detention on campus. The protest was organized by the FIU Young Social Democrats of Américas club and the ICE Off FIU coalition, also known as "Ice Breakers." Around forty protesters gathered, holding signs, some of which read "No ICE on campus", "Paws off our students", and a giant poster with the image of the university's mascot, Roary, with the initials "FU". Protesters consider that the agreement is not beneficial for the university and that students and faculty members would be at risk of being detained due to racial profiling. Malenie Mahmoodie, Communications Director of "Ice Breakers" at FIU, was one of the speakers at the protest. She said, "The 287(g) agreement has been proven by studies to increase the use of racial profiling. On top of that, racial profiling, according to a recent Supreme Court decision, is legal, so ICE can legally use racial profiling as a tactic to identify and target people they suspect are undocumented." To conclude the protest, the group marched to the FIU police department to deliver a letter with petitions, requesting that the 287(g) agreement be rescinded and that FIU be designated as a sanctuary campus.
