A massive fire on Thursday morning, November 6, destroyed a mansion that, according to local documents and files, is the home of the Miami Heat's basketball coach, Erik Spoelstra.
Several fire units were seen battling a blaze that morning at a house in southwest Coral Gables, which, according to local reports, belongs to the coach.
Firefighters confirmed that the emergency call came in around 4:36 a.m. According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR), 20 units and about 100 firefighters responded to the emergency and found two structures on the property completely engulfed in flames.
A video appears to show the coach standing in front of the house, which was completely consumed by the fire.
According to MDFR spokesperson Erika Benites, the fire was difficult to control due to the characteristics of the house. “It’s a very large property located in a small space, with limited access, surrounded by trees, vegetation, and a wall.”
Benites explained that they only had one point of access through the main gate and that they had to work using ladders from a great height due to the size of the wall and the trees.
No injuries have been reported so far.
